Design, build, engineer and maintain – that is the Jord Electric Ltd. promise of 360 degrees of service, all backed by long-term employees with an incredible depth of experience and a company owner that strives to ensure that every client interaction is best in class.

Jord Electric was founded in 1985 by three co-workers who were looking to deliver an elevated service to clients. From humble beginnings spun out of a larger company, Jord Electric grew steadily while retaining its employee-owned and operated model. This has resulted in a corporate culture where the buy-in of the long-term employees is very high. They love what they do, they are invested in each project, they support the company – and it shows in the results the clients enjoy. Together they provide 24/7 service, 365 days a year in commercial, maintenance, tenant improvement, data cabling, new installations, renovations and specialty lighting.

President Dave Lefebvre joined Jord Electric in 2011.

“I had been working for a company in the industrial sector and was looking for a position where I could be home more with my family. While I enjoyed that job, I’m glad I made the switch to a company where there was less time spent on the road,” says Lefebvre.

That wasn’t the only benefit. With a natural eye for entrepreneurship and a long-range plan to have his own company one day, Lefebvre soon realised that Jord Electric was the type of company he wanted to own. The vision, mission and corporate culture aligned with his own values. In 2020, he transitioned to ownership.

“While a firm foundation set by the previous owners set the tone, I made some tough decisions and moved to bring Jord Electric forward into a new era with a new culture, updated values, new products and procedures,” shares Lefebvre. “This was with a long-range vision to provide a better future for the company and everyone involved with it.”

Lefebvre is very proud of what Jord Electric is widely known for, which is being flexible, accommodating, able to handle complex projects and most importantly of all – dependable.

“Our dependability really helps us stand out,” he notes. “Another thing we are known for is our accountability. We do what we say we will do. If there are any issues, we are transparent and we figure it out. We make it right. We achieve this by only aligning ourselves with team members who hold these same values and commitment to not just Jord Electric and our clients, but to the industry as a whole. Growth as a company means working with employees who are willing to grow personally and professionally alongside us. This can be challenging in that it takes longer to find the employees we know will succeed here, but it is worth it for the team we continue to build.”

For Lefebvre, seeing the team be proud of what they create and build together is incredibly rewarding. In support of this, Jord Electric offers apprenticeships, training and support of the associations that help the electrical industry flourish.

Under this team-focused model, Jord Electric has completed hundreds of projects varying in size and scope, including a very interesting one at Royal Glenora Club.

From its ideal location on the river valley, Edmonton’s premier private club caters to an exclusive membership. So, when it came time to retrofit the lighting, the club needed minimal disruption to the daily activities and no damage to the courts. They needed an electrical company that could work with tight deadlines and be creative to get the job done with as little impact to the club and its members as possible. So, Royal Glenora Club called on Jord Electric.

Lefebvre smiles as he recalls the creativity used on that project.

“We did it all in two weeks. We couldn’t drive our lifts directly on the tennis courts, so we had 100 sheets of plywood and two employees tasked with moving them around. We worked extended hours to hit the deadline and ensured we carried ourselves properly as the members were very interested in what we were doing and could see us working during the day. That’s how we operate. We figure it out and we ensure our clients are happy. We always find a solution.”

Another project where Jord Electric’s creativity and innovation were on display was the repair of a
damaged conduit and fiber spanning the length of a bridge near Red Deer. The logisitcs of this project included night work to minimize impact on traffic and maximize worker safety, special permits and special trucks that are used in bridge maintenance.

“On any project, the biggest thing for me is the
quality of the work,” says Lefebvre. “That comes before anything else. Shifting the focus from profits first to quality first and paying strict attention to all of the details, taking stock early of the client experience and the overall impact the project will have when it is completed ensures that the goals of the project, clients and Jord Electric naturally align.”

This big-picture thinking extends into the community. Lefebvre and his team support the charitable drives and fundraisers of their clients and their team
members. From sponsoring individuals running for cures to buying boxes of chocolates and cookies, they always ensure they give back to the community that gives so much to them as a small business.

“For the foundation set by the original founders, the team we have today and our client base, I say a very big thank you,” says Lefebvre. “We are ready to keep moving Jord Electric forward by diversifying into other markets and growing the team. We know, and are excited about, our next steps. As we grow we will keep the focus on quality and our mission and values, knowing that staying aligned means we all grow together.”

It’s a humble company in Edmonton having a big impact on buildings, people and places. Look up. Look around. You just may be seeing Jord Electric’s work. It may be a lighting array or a bridge maintenance project; the impact of what they do leaves a lasting legacy for all involved.
