Rockland – Celebrating 20 Years

Noticing a gap in the market for high-end landscaping materials that could be sold directly to homeowners and contractors, Rockland Landscaping Supplies opened its doors in 2004. The company has been growing quickly since day one.

Gary and Mandee Takhar, owners of Rockland, say, “In 2010 we started offering commercial snow services and ice management. In 2020 we opened our second location in south Edmonton and this year, our third right off the Henday in northwest Edmonton. We are pleased to be celebrating 20 years and to have taken our team from two people to over 30.”

From bulk aggregates such as decorative rocks, compost, soil, mulches, gravel and sands; to hardscapes, boulders, accessories, tools, artificial grass, water features and so much more, Rockland is a one-stop shop for the backyard enthusiast to the full-time contractor.

“From the very start, our growth has been driven by our amazingly dedicated, loyal and supportive customers,” says Mandee. “Their trust and satisfaction have allowed us to expand and adapt over the years to meet the evolving needs of our growing community. We take great pride in the fact that much of our business growth has come through word of mouth – testament to the strong relationships we’ve built and the positive experiences we’ve consistently delivered.”

She continues, “At Rockland, we have always believed that quality service is the key to long-term success. We wouldn’t be able to achieve this without our amazing team of dedicated, knowledgeable and passionate employees. This belief has shaped our approach to business from day one and it remains the cornerstone of everything we do. Whether it’s through our snow management, maintenance services or any other offering, we ensure that every job is done right, with attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.

“Rockland’s mission of Quality Meets Convenience is at the core of everything we do and it’s what sets us apart in the industry. We believe that our customers shouldn’t have to choose between high-quality products and convenient service – they deserve both, seamlessly integrated into every experience.”

As a Canadian, locally owned and operated business, the Takhars are able to stay tuned in to the needs of the community. This is also helped by the fact that they and the team live, work and give back locally.

“Our involvement in local charitable causes and community initiatives further strengthens our ties to the community,” says Mandee. “We proudly contribute to the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation, The Royal Canadian Legion, local youth sports, the local food banks, Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, local schools with gardens and the most recent project at the Sturgeon Hospital with their healing garden, to name a few.”

She goes on to note how they help customers choose the right products to create functional outdoor living spaces, which also creates enjoyment and can increase property values. On the commercial side, having a professional, highly rated company like Rockland taking care of snow and ice gives clients peace of mind that their properties are safer and more accessible during the winter months.

“This same level of service and quality has allowed us to grow into a multi-division company that services some of the largest clients in Edmonton, enabling us to continue growing our portfolio.”

The Rockland team and the Takhars have been celebrated many times over the years with awards from T8N and Readers’ Choice, among others. Gary is pleased to have earned a Young Entrepreneur award, and the Takhars are thrilled to be recognized by Business in Edmonton Leaders.

Mandee concludes with a message to Rockland’s past, present and future customers, “Your satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to being with you every step of the way, offering the support, guidance and expertise you need to achieve your goals. Your trust in us means the world and we are deeply grateful for your continued support. Together, we’ll build something truly remarkable.”

Due to continued growth, Rockland will be moving its St. Albert location to #100 54408, Range Road 260 in Sturgeon County, allowing the company more space to expand its operations and bring more new and innovative products and services to its customers. Rockland will be opening its flagship store and ready to serve customers from that location in the Spring of 2025.
