Empire Hydraulics & Hard Chrome provides heavy-duty equipment repair with a special focus on hydraulic cylinder services and industrial hard chroming. For decades, this Edmonton-based company has dedicated itself to providing outstanding service to a wide array of industries, including construction, mining, forestry, waste collection and more. Their state-of-the-art facility, equipped with the latest technology and operating systems, ensures that all work is performed in-house, allowing for fast delivery times, controlled quality of workmanship, and the elimination of high markups.
In addition to the core offerings of hydraulic cylinder services, industrial hard chroming and precision machining, Empire Hydraulics also offers bore welding, replacement seal kits and NDT Magnafluxing. Services and products are offered across western and northern Canada and for all heavy equipment makes and models.
With a commitment to quality, speed, client satisfaction and a great corporate culture, Empire Hydraulics has established itself as western Canada’s premium choice for maintaining and repairing heavy machinery.
“While we have been known as Empire Hydraulics & Hard Chrome since 2009, the roots of the company actually go back to 1979,” says Sedeeka Ali, executive manager. “The company was founded by Haroon Ali and operated as Dominion Chrome Industries until he changed the name and moved the growing operation to our current location.”
The move was necessary as it meant buying and building Empire Hydraulics’ own shop and office to better accommodate clients and to increase the already high standards the brand had for environmental sustainability.
In every aspect and across all departments, Ali notes that the synchronicity the team shares is a major driver in Empire Hydraulics’ ongoing success.
“We have an environment where we are all working together,” she shares. “Everyone has an important role to play. From shipper receiver to the admins to our machinists, everyone’s roles are equally important and respected.”
Ali continues, “We are very proud of our highly skilled and dedicated staff. Empire Hydraulics has been operating for 45 years, serving many large and reputable companies. Our quality of work speaks for itself. We would not be operating successfully for over four decades, maintaining many repeat clients as well as numerous referrals, if not for the excellence of service we provide.”
The dedication to high-quality work, provided on time and with great client service, has helped Empire Hydraulics weather the issues facing Alberta’s manufacturing industry – labour shortages and rising costs.
“Unfortunately, the prices of parts and transport have risen substantially and have impacted our costs,” Ali shares. “Costs are important to our customers, but quality even more so. Thankfully, our long-term clients understand this. We have a very good relationship with them, many of whom have been with us since we operated as Dominion Chrome Industries over 15 years ago. It is rewarding to see the loyalty and confidence they have in us. We pride ourselves in being a good company to work with and are very accommodating in meeting our clients’ needs, no matter how unique.”
“A fun fact,” Ali says, “is that Dominion Chrome Industries was the first independent chrome shop in Edmonton – opening for business in 1979. There were equipment dealerships like Finning, Komatsu, Brandt etc., who repaired their machinery in house but we were the first to open independently, servicing all brands of hydraulic cylinders and uniquely equipped with our own chrome shop.”
Edmonton is known for its manufacturing capabilities and Ali says this is one reason why Empire Hydraulics enjoys having its home base in the city.
“People are always on the move here,” she smiles. “Edmonton is always booming with lots of projects going on and lots of construction. Whatever business you are in, there is plenty of opportunity in this city.”
Empire Hydraulics gives back to the city it loves through donations and volunteering.
“Every year we chose various local charities to support, like the Stollery, WINHouse, Bissel Centre, Hope Mission and other well deserving causes. Our priority is to help the people of Edmonton first,” Ali shares.
As she reflects on 45 years of building a brand in Edmonton and helping to keep heavy equipment moving and in great shape, Ali says on behalf of the ownership and management group, “A big thank you to our teams. We have lots of hardworking staff here. Everyone is very dedicated and cares deeply about doing their job to the best of their ability. I couldn’t be happier with the effort our staff puts in.”
Ali continues, “Our core staff are highly knowledgeable in their fields and have been with us for an average of 10-25 years. Haresh Pithva, our operations manager, and Bridget Busby, our administrative associate work directly with our customers on a daily basis. Our shop foremen, Upendra Gounder and Peter Antoniuk, are experts in machining and industrial hard chroming as well as hydraulic cylinder repair. They work closely with our shop staff, overseeing every aspect of the repair process.
“Our sales associate, Carter Brisebois, has a special relationship with our customers and is a key player in helping to keep their needs met. Danyal Bacchus is our operations associate who holds multiple roles as a liaison between customers, administration and shop staff and is also responsible for our safety programs and environmental compliances, as well as hiring and various human resource duties.
“Together we form a cohesive team where communication and dedication are keys to our success.”
What comes next? Empire Hydraulics is very busy and plans to keep up the high level of service and quality for which they are well known.
“The path forward is to keep pleasing our valued clients,” Ali concludes. “To keep up with the pace, we may expand on the hiring side in the near future.”
