The spirit of entrepreneurship thrives in the Capital City, exemplified by Roger Cable, the driving force behind Veyron Projects Inc. and Aquarian Renovations. Starting with the launch of Veyron Projects — a construction and renovation company servicing the commercial sector—Cable later expanded his vision by acquiring the well-established Aquarian Renovations. Together, these ventures not only transform the city with stunning, functional spaces but also inspire others with their innovative approach and adaptability.

Aquarian was launched as an art-based enterprise by Marie and Doug Soprovich. With Doug’s second-generation building experience and Marie’s creative drive, they transitioned the brand into construction and renovation in the late 1990s. After Doug’s passing, Marie continued to move Aquarian forward.

Cable purchased Aquarian in 2019.

“Since then, we have really invested in the design side of Aquarian,” he says of the brand that is well known and respected for residential interior design and renovations. “We’ve added a virtual reality room to help clients visualize the spaces; it’s a true collaboration between their vision and our expertise.”

One year after Cable purchased Aquarian, the pandemic hit. His leadership was tested as he took his long-range business plan and pivoted it to meet the situation. The word he uses to describe the first few years is “unpredictable.”

“Things are consistent now,” he assures, “but at the start, we had to reimagine our vision. By focusing on becoming a premier boutique contractor with a different vision and an exceptional team, we achieved our goals and set a new foundation. We experience very little turnover and we greatly enjoy the projects, along with the personal touch and lasting client relationships we offer.”

With Aquarian Renovations celebrating 35 years and Veyron Projects celebrating 20 as a commercial contractor, Cable adds, “We are also grateful for our repeat clients over the decades.”

For both companies, the years in business, the expertise of the teams and the unique creativity all add up to hundreds of projects and very satisfied clients.

“At Aquarian, we offer in-house design services alongside turnkey renovations. It’s a start-to-finish process that’s efficient and seamless. Don’t be afraid to explore this option,” says Cable, “and we are so fortunate to work with some very talented designers and architects who partner with Veyron Projects.”

He continues, “We take pride in every project we undertake, viewing each one as a unique opportunity to deliver excellence for our clients. While all our projects hold equal weight in our eyes, a particularly notable one was the spiritual grounds at Grande Cache Institution. This build, an interpretive Indigenous centre within the facility, was a unique and impactful community project completed as a joint venture. It stands as a testament to our ability to handle complex and sensitive builds, delivering a meaningful space for its users.”

In addition to enhancing communities through projects, Cable and his teams greatly enjoy giving back and supporting nonprofit organizations like Kids Included (formerly Grit) and ABC Headstart Society.

On behalf of his teams, Cable is very proud of the BILD Alberta Awards Aquarian has won over the years and feels immense gratitude for all who have been on the journey from the first iterations of the brands.

“And,” he adds, “for the other renovation companies in the city, we support each other. There are challenges with permitting, the economy and all of the other stuff that’s going on. It’s good to have a group that talks to each other. I want to give a shout out to those in the home renovation industry, including those who belong and contribute to the councils and associations.”

He also says a thank you to Marie Soprovich, who “still pops over a few times a year to say hi and is a great source of encouragement, referrals and support.”

Aquarian Renovations and Veyron Projects have exciting things on the horizon. Aquarian is emerging in the infill space, and is increasing production on its core identity – home renovations. Both brands are exploring the technologies, including AI, that can complement workflows.

“The plan,” Cable concludes, “is to keep doing what we do, providing construction experiences worth sharing.”
