Laura Kinghorn, executive director of business development at the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, is excited to invite the community to Small Business Week (SBW), presented by Servus Credit Union, running from October 21 to October 25 at the World Trade Centre in downtown Edmonton. This event is designed around the themes of learning, networking and growth, focusing on themes such as AI literacy, branding, innovation in business and advocacy.
“SBW is important to showcase what we offer while bringing the business community together,” says Kinghorn. “It aligns with our goals and the mission of the Chamber, which is to help grow businesses. Everyone plays a part in businesses’ success, from larger partners like Telus, Servus Credit Union and CPHR, to family-run enterprises. Our membership is largely small businesses, but we invite and want to see companies of all sizes as well as members and at our events.”
Edmonton’s World Trade Centre is a local landmark and this venue will be prominently showcased during SBW.
“We have three boardrooms, conference space, networking areas and a cocktail bar section that can rented out. Being ideally located downtown on Jasper Ave means we couldn’t be better placed for businesses of all kinds.”
Each day of SBW will be packed with programming, ranging from morning to evening sessions, allowing participants to tailor their schedules to their interests. Whether it’s diving into AI literacy, exploring communications with industry giants like Telus or engaging in innovation and advocacy discussions, there’s something for everyone. The event will also feature HR professionals on site to provide invaluable advice for attendees.
The topics by day are as follows:
- Monday: Preventing and protecting your business from fraud
- Tuesday: AI literacy
- Wednesday: HR & risk management
- Thursday: Advocacy & Selling to all orders of government
- Friday: Branding yourself and your business
“Our members love our advocacy and other services, but one of our true values is helping our members gain new partners or clients. We encourage growth by bringing people together, both small and large businesses alike,” Kinghorn explains. “The Chamber’s efforts ensure that connections made during SBW continue to grow throughout the year.”
Beyond SBW, the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for one of its most anticipated events—the Chamber Ball on January 25, 2025. This event is shaping up to be the largest and best-attended event of the year.
“It’s a golden chance for businesses to get involved and for potential sponsors to shine,” smiles Kinghorn.
Join SBW and become part of a thriving community. Register for sessions and networking opportunities on the Chamber website, and don’t miss marking the Chamber Ball on your calendar for an unforgettable evening of growth and connections.
