NorQuest College, the community post-secondary institution that serves more than 18,000 students from the around the world annually, is introducing new industry-specific programs.

“At NorQuest College, new program development is conducted from a student-first lens. In 2019, a host of new programs will provide you, our current and prospective students, with options that are career- and market-focused. This means that our graduates can expect to find employment in meaningful and needed careers from either the moment they step forward into the job search or within two years of leaving the college,” NorQuest College announced in a recent media statement.

By consulting and collaborating with industry stakeholders (including front-line workers, supervisors, managers, and executives), NorQuest College has developed programs that have a high demand for skilled labour.

Currently the new programs include the following:

  • Teaching English as an Additional Language – post-baccalaureate certificate: students will become effective teachers for both adult English classes and K-12 learners.

  • Interdisciplinary Therapy Assistant – diploma: students learn skills across four rehabilitation disciplines.

  • Business Administration with a Finance Specialization – diploma: students gain a foundation to emerge into various aspects of business management and ownership.

  • Settlement Studies – diploma: over the course of two years, students learn how to work with newcomers that are coming to Canada and the strategies needed to meet their needs based on the newcomer’s situation.

  • Disability Studies – diploma: students learn to leverage their client’s strength and abilities to support the clients’ goals and participation in the community.

  • Environment Protection Technology – diploma: students prepare for work in the environmental sector and learn how to protect the ecosystems that sustain us.

  • Veterinary Office Assistant – certificate: a demanding field that is best suited to animal lovers, this course enables students to gain employment in a variety of veterinary settings including clinical, emergency and speciality. A combination of office administrative and veterinary medical terminology, among other skills, gives students a well rounded approach to becoming an assistant in this field.

  • Dental Office Assistant – certificate: this fast-paced 12 week program gives students the means to perform administration and billing in denture clinics, orthodontist and specialist offices, dental labs, and other dental-related businesses and healthcare industries.

  • Arts and Sciences – credits: arts and sciences credits are transferable into second-year Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degrees at the university level or may be used as credits towards NorQuest College’s Health and Community Studies program.

Also being offered is a Health Care Leadership post-diploma certificate and, as of winter 2020, an Optical Office Assistant program. NorQuest College expects to announce even more new programming in the coming months and continues to work with industry partners to develop programs and courses that are relevant and needed in today’s businesses.
